The ranks in the Nigerian army are separated into two categories: commissioned officer & non-commissioned officer ranks.
The commissioned officer ranks are separated into eleven, while the non-commissioned officer is separated into seven.
A commissioned officer is a member of the military whose position is verified by a government-issued document known as a commission, whereas a non-commissioned officer is one who does not have or has not earned a commission document.
To obtain this document, a non-commission officer must progress through the enlisted ranks. In the civilian sector, this document is equivalent to a government-issued official letter of appointment.
